Bryant Park

Bryant Park has got to be the coolest park ever they literally have everything; ping pong, carousel, cafe's, fountains, books, chess games, bocce, and a historical library. Not only is the park awesome any ordinary day but add warm summer weather and it gets a whole lot better. Think free yoga, fencing classes, poetry readings (author of Born to Run is doing a reading next week), outdoor movies, juggling, and tai chi - this park is seriously epic.

New York Public Library: One of my favorite buildings in the city
Bryant Park really is the greatest park I loved being able to spend the whole day there. We also met at Bryant Park later in the evening to watch the famous "Manhattanhenge." Twice a year the sun sets directly between the city blocks of New York, today was one of those days. Unluckily, the rain clouds rolled in and it was so cloudy there was no sunset - maybe in 6 months.

Memorial Day

Today was definitely a memorable Memorial Day one for the books to be cliche'.  The highlight of the day, after waiting in the sun for 1 and a 1/2 hours to get a ticket, was the New York Philharmonic performance in St. John's Cathedral. It was an amazing performance and being inside the Cathedral made it so unique. The only downside of the day was the heat and humidity which I will never ever adjust to, I was dripping wet all day. It felt like I was right back in India with the heat and humidity, good thing it will be another summer of sweaty pictures.

Sammy Boy

I was back in Salt Lake this weekend for Sam's farewell, he gave a great talk and I was so proud of him. I am really going to miss this boy but he will do a great job serving the Lord and the people of Mexico City.

I love you, Sam. Good Luck!!!!

Street Fairs

I have loved wandering around exploring this incredibly diverse city. One of my favorite discoveries are the interesting street fairs I have stumbled upon, from a food market in Madison Square Park to a flee market in SoHo.

The Art of New York City

I love culture and luckily New York is full of it. I have spent the last few days exploring museums and culture in New York. I wandered through the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the MoMa but my favorite was the New York Ballet Performance. Dancers are truly amazing and I loved being able to watch one of the top company's in the world perform.

Saying Goodbye to the Family

Well my family went home last night and I moved into my temporary home on the Upper West Side - half a block from Central Park. It was a weird and really sad farewell from a busy subway platform as they headed to the airport and I headed towards the park. My family literally left me all alone in this huge city but luckily I can handle it, I think. Here are just a few pictures of the adventures we had the last few days.

My lovely siblings hanging out at Lincoln Center

Rockefeller Center

The New World Trade Center Memorial, it is a very moving memorial they have really done a great job.

Brooklyn Bridge

Washington Square where one of my favorite movies, August Rush, takes place.

Lion King Broadway Show it was so much fun and the costumes were amazing.

The famous Magnolia's which we have heard so much about.

Sam, my Dad and I left the girls to do some shopping and went to explore the Highline park. It was a really cool park because it is build up on the old rail road tracks above the city where it provides unique and interesting views of the city.

Really going to miss this boy when he leaves for his mission to Mexico City, South West exactly TWO WEEKS from today.

First Day Of Work....Well Almost

Yesterday I had the opportunity to meet with Amy Shapiro, a nutritionist and dietitian based in New York City. Amy is the woman I will be interning with this summer, if you get a chance check out her website realnutritionnyc.com, she is awesome and I am honestly so excited to learn and work with her this summer. I didn't think this summer could get much better but somehow it does, I met with her yesterday and don't have to be back into the office until next week. That doesn't mean I won't be working but that I can do it from anywhere in the city, parks, libraries, coffee shops you name it as long as I have my computer. I am now even more excited to explore this crazy city, full of culture, lots of people, and way too many fun things to explore.

Welcome from NYC

Well I've made it to New York, but it has been a crazy journey. It started with everything falling apart last Monday when the woman I was living with and had signed a contract with pulled the plug leaving me with no where to live in the city. She was gracious enough to give me a two week window to find housing during which time I would be allowed to stay with her, but still this complicated things. My dad and I, mostly my dad, started a hard core housing search so I would have somewhere to live during the summer. We had a few leads to get us started once we got to the city but other than that I didn't really have anywhere to live. We took a very long and uncomfortable red eye from Salt Lake City, arriving in New York early Friday morning. The red eye didn't stop us though, we had a busy day of crazy walking followed by more bad news. We had set up a few appointments to look at apartments but they were cancelled last minute because they had already filled the apartments so, back to square one with no housing options. I know my parents were stressed about it but we all still managed to have fun exploring the city. We visited the new World Trade Center Memorial, walked Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Union Square, Washington Square, breakfast with distant cousins, Wall Street, the Brooklyn Bridge and more. We have been walking for the past three days which doesn't seem like a lot at the time but I am wiped out every night. We also visited the building where I will be interning it is right next to the Flatiron building in an awesome area, also next to this great park with the Shake Shack from the movie Something Borrowed. It's been fun to explore with my Dad because he knows this city pretty well from his time here during graduate school at the New School. I'm hoping I get comfortable with the city because right now I still can't figure out which direction to walk when I get out of the subway. Everything is falling back into place I think I have found an awesome new apartment, I start work tomorrow and luckily we have already walked to the office so I know the general area and my summer in New York is about to start.
